So I’ve written before about how amazing WSBK is and why if you like racing you should be watching. This weekend didn’t disappoint at all! Nicky managed a podium, and Sykes is now only 40 points down from JR in the standings. This season is FAR from over folks!

I decided a few weeks back to buy some tickets and ride my duke up to Monterey and I’m glad I did. The round trip was ~1063 miles on the Duke, and was completely without issue. Sure there are a few things I’ll do differently the next time, but it was still an amazing trip. Here are a few photos to sum up the journey!

I loaded up and set off from work.

My buddy met me in Goleta and we rode PCH from San Luis Obispo to Monterey. Its something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m glad I did!

Nicky after his TV interviews was mobbed by people... it was cool getting to see him up close. He stayed for a while signing autographs and letting people take a ton of pictures with him.

Mmm, is that the 690 Duke? I want one of those bad. You need to write a review on here for it!

It is! I’ve put ~10,000 miles on that one (its my second 690) and LOVE them. This one has all the Power Parts on it and goes like stink!

Love me some Kentucky Kid.

I sat on a 690 Duke this weekend at Mid Ohio. KTM was doing Demo Rides during the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days event. But as a Duc man, I can’t buy a KTM.

I still love my Ducati 748, but I want a Multistrada 1200S now

Nice! SBK weekend was always so much better than the Moto GP circus at Laguna. Haven’t made it up in years but I saw all the bikes on 101 to and from the Bay this weekend and wished I could make a detour.

I nearly pulled the trigger on a 748 years ago... great bikes. I also know I’ll eventually own a Duc. But for now, that duke does everything I need it to! The Multistrada’s do make my pants tight when I think about just how capable they are.

Honestly, as long as they made money I don’t care if the attendance never grows. You’ll see the same people walking around, EVERYONE is friendly, it was amazing. I was shocked just how “homey” this weekend felt. I’ve been to other races that were not as nice...

That’s exactly the feel I loved about it, whereas the GP weekend was a standing room only bro-down. I go to a lot of races there, and SBK is still among the best experiences Ive had.

Sell Duke, acquire Monster, live life :).

Ride safely, bro!

Wow, just wow. Looks like an amazing trip sir! Just drove PCH from Venice to San Francisco a few weeks ago on vacation and kept thinking how much fun it would be on a bike.

Also, amazing the access you had at the race! Great shots.

Also also, how were the vibrations from the bike for that long of a trip? This the single cyl or no?

Its a million times better on a bike. Not having to wait on traffic is VERY nice!
We had some Gold Passes which allowed us some cool access, but next race I want an FIM pass so I can walk the gird for WSBK.
The 690 is a big single, and the vibrations don’t bother me at all. They are noticeable, but when you are riding its not something you think about.

I’m actually moving to Italy in the next few months, so I’ve thought about it. But in reality its Streetfighter or bust ;)
